Teórico crítico da mídia, Douglas Kellner empreende um notável trabalho de contextualização do pós-moderno, em relação ao moderno. Segundo o estudioso norte-americano, a produção intelectual dos pós-modernos está relacionada diretamente com momento particular vivenciado por eles, principalmente durante as décadas 1960 e 1970.
